Day 8 - Morning Report

By: Adam Espino -- Huntington Beach

A full agenda is planned today and is jam-packed with action.  The final Saturday-- the marquee day at the Vans US Open of Surfing--is always sure to bring out the brightest stars and the best action.  The morning will begin with Men’s Prime Round 5 in surf stadium.  Every heat is a must-watch with the likes of Jordy Smith, Filipe Toledo, Bede Durbidge, Brett Simpson, and Kolohe Andino making appearances in eight head-to-head heats.

Men’s Round 5 will be followed by the Women’s Quarterfinals, during which a plethora of ASP top 10 talent will compete to get one step closer to Sunday’s final.  Tournament star Malia Manuel will surf in Heat 1 against Australian Nikki Van Dijk.  The last Women’s Pro surf heat of the day will feature tour staples Stephanie Gilmore and Lakey Peterson.

The finals of the Men’s and Women’s Pro Juniors will be held between 2:20pm and 3:20pm, followed by the final of the Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational longboard competition.

Following surf, the focus will move to the concrete bowl for the Men’s Van Doren Invitational skate semifinal and final from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
